Start with bitrate rather than a resolution label

A label such as HD or 4K does not specify one fixed amount of data. For a useful estimate, obtain the stream bitrate from a trustworthy player statistic or use a clearly labelled assumption. Bitrate describes the amount of data transferred per second. If you cannot see it, calculate a range instead of presenting one precise prediction. Keep the unit clear: megabits per second, usually Mbps, differs from megabytes per second.

Use a simple decimal-gigabyte formula

For an assumed total bitrate in Mbps, estimated GB equals Mbps multiplied by hours multiplied by 0.45. The factor converts seconds to hours and bits to bytes using decimal units. At 5 Mbps, two hours is about 4.5 GB; at 10 Mbps, the same period is about 9 GB. These are arithmetic examples, not measured Strong 8K stream rates. If your bitrate figure includes only video, audio and other transferred data will add to the total.

Add the actual viewing sessions

Estimate each session separately when screens use different quality levels. For example, two hours at 5 Mbps plus one hour at 3 Mbps totals about 5.85 GB before additional traffic. Multiply a representative day by the number of days you expect to watch, rather than automatically assuming every day is identical. Include downloads, app updates and other internet use when comparing the result with a household data allowance. Simultaneous-screen permission remains a separate account question.

Check the estimate against real measurements

Variable bitrate, automatic quality changes, buffering and background traffic make actual consumption differ from a simple calculation. Compare a controlled session with the device or router data counter if available, and check how your internet provider measures its allowance. Some interfaces use binary units rather than decimal GB, which can change the displayed number. Use a reasonable buffer when planning a capped connection. A formula helps budget viewing, but it cannot promise the exact amount your provider will record.
