Establish playback on the computer first
Open the player on the built-in screen and test a known source before attaching a television or monitor. This creates a useful baseline. If playback already fails locally, investigate the account or player before adding another display path. If it works locally but changes after the external connection, record that difference. Keep the same programme during the comparison so you do not accidentally compare two sources with different availability or playback requirements.
Check the physical connection and display mode
Confirm the cable or adapter is suitable for the computer and display, connect it securely and choose the matching television input. In Windows, display settings let you identify and arrange connected screens; Microsoft also documents detecting a missing display. On a Mac, the supported number and type of external displays depend on the model. Follow the manufacturer instructions for your hardware. Decide whether you want a mirrored picture or an extended desktop, then move the player to the intended screen.
Select an audio output deliberately
A visible picture on the television does not establish where the sound is routed. Check the computer audio output and the television or speaker volume at a safe level. Some monitors have no speakers, so selecting that display as output can produce silence. Test built-in speakers if you need to separate the audio issue from the picture connection. Keep any soundbar or receiver out of the first comparison where practical, then add it back once the simple setup works.
Check the viewing controls before settling in
Use fullscreen on the correct display, inspect subtitle placement and make sure the picture is not cropped at the edges. Test stopping playback and returning to the desktop so you know how to exit. If the external screen goes black while local playback works, note the cable, adapter, display model and player. Consult the equipment and app documentation rather than installing unknown display fixes. Share those details with support without including account passwords or private playlist addresses.
